Short News

The 2008er Leafcycles program is now also in the Onlineshop of DoubleXStore, only few clicks to competent parts: Link.

With delay also the 2008er Ride Lite shirts from printering arrived, now you can refer position to lite weight!

Leafcycles 08!

"Bing" - got mail from Frank Heinrich, owner of Leafcycles. He wrote me to have a look at his new website - all 2008 products are online. The best thing: a lot of lite stuff! So check out: leafcycles.eu.
10 minutes later mail.app rings again, DoubleXStore has the new stuff in stock!

The whole productline is really nice - specially the colorchoice. The "Mescal Edition" is brandnew , pivotal seats and posts are part of it. The posts are available as stumps (25,4mm; 98-99g) and "normal" version (27,2mm; 229g) in purple and black for a real fair price. Matching seats are in stock, too - a slimseat (267g) and a bigger one (329g).

Helicopter front (198g) and back (472g; 10mm axle, freewheel) hub are available in purple and black, costs are very low - only 69,90 Euro! If you have a cassette-hub you can get cogs starting with 12t.

D.one and OS frames are purchasable.

The D.one frame weighs 2889g and has two new colors: purple and an impressing neon-green (must see!) - Eastwood bar (598g) has matching colors and the black box stem (ca. 250g)and Logo seatclamps have a nice colorline too. The OS frames disappoints a bit - it weighs 3186g, but just a nice geometry, you can get it in white and grey! Also in stock: Lite magnesium Pedals (around 370g) and alloy pedals (540g; 34,90 Euro) in nice colors (white, black an neon-green/-yellow).

Result: Leafcycles plays the trump card 2008 with a very beautiful product range, beautiful colors and meaningful parts at really fair prices.

Kowa Suspension

In April 2007 we reported about Kowa. Now the USA has a new distribution. The fork on the the pictures is the "160Ss Air" Modell (renamed to "brooklyn" by brooklyn machine works),; it has a lot of interesting features like airsuspension and easy traveladjustment, you can choose between 20 and 160mm steplessly - so this fork satisfies a large target group.
It has got a light hollow-crown with 35mm hard ano coated sanchions and is built for 20mm-axles. On the top of the left leg is an aluminum knob for travel adjustment. Turn the knob 180 degrees to the open position, and the travel can be adjusted from fully extended to fully compressed. Airchamber via shrader valve at the bottom of the left leg, external rebound via aluminum knob on the bottom of the right leg.

Our last information is 2390g including axle and 750 Euro.

An expensive change...

... -welcome to the range of little tuning for a lot of money. The switch of boltss is the last way to lighten your bike. Titanium and aluminium bolts replacing old steel bolts. And this is very expensive! One gramm less, costs more than one euro. The first step was the Pivotalbolt from steel to alu: 20g less for rather 7 Euros. Additional my underboss stem at 10g by using ti-bolts. And the seatclamp bolt is loses 4 gramm.

A good Place for bying Ti bolts is this shop. Who wnats to do it like me: Every bolt can be changen which is less burden by alu-bolts (for example:seatpostbolts etc.), higly burdened bolts only by Ti-bolts. Do it as long as your financiell situation allows it.

Haunebu F480 Dirt&Street Fork

Haunebu is going back to the Dirt-/Streetscene. They come back with an fixed fork with the installation high of 480mm (which is like a 140mm suspension fork). The headtube is in 1 1/8" and 6mm strong. By this high of installation and the pipe diameter of 31,8mmis the weight with 1,6kg eally nice. (but there exist a lot of more beautifull an more lighter forks). More facts: for 10mm Axis, for 160mm discbrakes.

Dropout tuning:

No, i'm not talking about an light measure, rather about the low-budget thematic. The Problem: 10mm Dropouts, but 12 or 14mm hubs and no money for changes or something new.
The Conditions: Steal-frame and drop outs, which aren't too short and some kind of tootime flavour :) .
You need: File, wire brush, caliper rule, thumbtack, rule, tape, a vice and a cloth. maybe a cutting disc.
Attention: Inform yourself about the guarantie, if you are allowed to customize your frame.
This case handles about a Perv Street, the mother of all low budget bikes.
We bring a 14mm WeThePeaople hub du the frame. The Dropouts at this frame usually are very big, so that no one must think about problems with stability.
We beginn: Save your chainstay by using the cloth and put the frame to the vice and go on. The best was is to file the lower side of the dropout. So you have the guarantie, that the hub not will be fixed wry, even if you file uneven.
If you even have to go to both direction: work fair! The best way ist to use the caliper rule and draw a line, where the last point of filing is. The Tape helps you to illustrate the drawing.
Everybody who filed before knows the lenght of such a process. So you can, if you want, go the first part of the way by your cutting disc. Please youse a new disc, beacuase of contingently sediments on the old disc.
If you do it by the cutting disc, don't trust on your drawing, check it often if you cut on the right way, after cutting finish your work with the file and make it looking good.
A tolerance about 1 mm in the end isn't tragicly.
Note: If you just file in on direkcton, the Geo of the frame changes.

Pivotal-Tuning

Pivotal-Systems are integrated for a time, and not only for bmx riders. Federal used the patent of MacNeil and released a 75mm long and 66g small seatpost and proper slimseats, which weigh 250g. The seatposts (66 und 96g) costs 24,95 Euro, the slimseats 34,95 Euro.

make it more lighter with a Ti6Al4V Ti-bolt from Knight. Indeed it costs about 20 Euros.

you get it at DoubleXStore

Ride Lite is one

At the 9th of February 2007 Ride Lite was born. At first we had a different aim, but it works different than thinks; at this place a little note: "Webzine" includes the old "Online magazine" Since that day 369 articles were posted and we don't see an end. We are going to write good news and to be on the top. Unfortunately we noted, that often the light parts, are not the best ( i'm thinking of alu cranks, plastic parts, etc), but this is, why we are here. Now i have to thank the Double X Store in Dortmund Hombruch, who supports us with good stuff an a lot of know how.
Not unspoken is Frank Heinrich, the man behind Leafcycles – Thanks a lot, that we were allowed to test your D.One, it was an honor. Frank sent us a little Birthdaycard

I don't forget Ulrich „Ulfred“ Nölle of Veltec, who builts my wonderfull wheelset and gives a good tip at every opportunity. Know-how is one of the importants parts of living lite. he sends us a very funny birthdayletter:

„At first: happy birthday and much fun for your future. I used Ride Lite often as an source of information and i was very inspired by the article about the PVC BB.

learning by doing: I tunded the headset of the bike of my daughter. To this point it works great ( ok, the intractable response characteristic sucks). And the Zero BB works great, too.
My daughter loves it, Dad is proud: great!
Thanks Ride Lite!!“

Last but not least a big THANKS to our Reader. You're pushing our counter higher and higher, every day. Your support was good at all, too. many thanks for your Trust and loyalty.

Of course we have a little present for you: We show you our Video Podcastlist:

Home Improvement / Quick Checks

No, we're not going to work with hammer and scissor, but we're going to use a cutting disc, a file and a carpet cutter. Reducing the weight is often the serach for little details.

We start at the pedals. It's rather not about the weight, it's about the look. So we kill every refelctor mounting by using our file.if someone is interested in: it lightened the pedals about 12g. But don't forget, you're losing your guarantee.

if we're talking about pedals: my NC-17 Mags are used since nearly 1,5 years. The bearings are running as at the first day, the money i spent was spent right, the more so as the orignial weight is about 369g. A possible tuning opportunity is the Ti axis as rather killing the reflector mountings. Available here, and Leafcycles releases Mags in very cool colours.
At such a light pedal, i can't understand the hype about the plastic pedals. Sure, new materials are very interesting, but at the internet, some people critized the plastic stuff hard with "recycling bmx" and so on. Fact is, that plastic pedals are good for flatland and by normal use not alive for a long time. The use of mags is the definitely better way of spending your money.

We go on the simple way. killing the flangue: 40g!

racing cycle barends weigh 4g. The looks sucks, the weight not.

This Product isn't new yet, but i want to show a weight-picture: the taywan version of the blkmrkt Underboss stem - 44,90 Euro for 177g nice elox look (we weight some stems and the tolerance is about 3 gramm).

MacNeil Conjoined Cranks

MacNeil falls below the Demolition Medial Cranks with their newest production suppositionally that the official details are right. The set with Ti axis weights 676g, the CrMo version 814g (both without bolts and bearings). The reliable 48-fold tooth system with a diameter of 19mm, "super strong" Sanko Japan pipes (270g per crank) and "Graphics that drive the bitches wild" are some details. The cranks are available in black and white. bye and weigh!

Tonic Fab Howie available

We presented the frame some weeks ago, but now, Tonic released the 26" frame. The price is about 700 USD, and you have to add some duties. No bargain at all, but for real individuums a good choice.

The facts:

TT length: 22.25"
HT Angle: 69
ST Angle: 72
CS Length: 15.25"
Seat Tube C-C: 10"

here we go again....
